Something I've learned after blogging and Facebooking for as long as I have, is that we all have our own personal reasons for fishing and what discoveries we make along the way. As part of my growth process, for hopefully we all grow with each experience outdoors, I felt the need to put my thoughts down about things that I have learned while fly fishing. I call them my fly fishing truths.
Whether you tie flies or not, eventually you will end up with a hook stuck somewhere it's not supposed to be.
Whether you tie flies or not, eventually you will end up with a hook stuck somewhere it's not supposed to be.
A good fisherman will learn many knots that are useful for more than just fishing.
No matter the brand, all waders will eventually leak...or you will pee in them...one or the other.
Somewhere, sometime you will catch a fish that you weren't expecting.
If you are a fly fishing snob, eventually a group of angry bait fishermen will dismember you and drag you through your favorite hole.
Contrary to all reason, dogs can retrieve fish.
Despite what your wife or girlfriend says, size does matter.
Make every day on the water the best it can be...it may be your last.

Is that your foot?
ReplyDeleteHi Jay...fortunately not this time. But it certainly could have been. I've been there and done that more times than I care to think about. It's inevitable.
Deleteprofound.
ReplyDeletebuilt-in obsolescence I guess with regard to the waders. I've never gotten more than one season out of my waders. I'm hoping it'll be different with the new one's I just got.
Clif, I've got the second pair of waders I ever bought...Simms Guides. The only problem I've ever had with them is, well...I sprung a leak once. Of course I only wear them a handful a times a year.
DeleteI can get that out for you.
ReplyDeleteI've seen all the videos Fred. I'm confident that I could do it. That being said, last summer when I hooked myself in the calf I panicked and ripped it out. Ouch!
DeleteBut the adventure. This is yet another reason to use a hook without barb! Greetings from Polish!
ReplyDeleteHi Tom! Fishing with me is an adventure! I do smash the barbs down on the flies I tie but every once in a while I used a store bought fly and forget. Ouch again.
DeleteOuch!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Richard. Luckily this time it wasn't me! I've never had it together enough to stop and take a picture.
DeleteHoward
ReplyDeleteI've had the hook in my hand but not my foot that hurts to look at that image.
Hi Bill,
DeleteYeah tender parts of the body don't feel good with a hook sticking out of them. I'd much prefer to keep them where they belong. In the box.
Always enjoy the humor.
ReplyDeleteThanks as always Mark. I'm fighting the cabin fever!
DeleteThe dog fishes better than I do, OUCH! and I hear urine is good for the inside of your waders! Thanks for making this crazy winter enjoyable. Please do the snow dance we need water!
ReplyDeleteHey what a greater compliment than asking me to do a snow dance. I'll try to post some video if I can get my better half to cooperate. Hmmm...Urine.
DeleteHoward, having looked at this post several times I just can't imagine how painful that hook in the foot is. Glad it's not yours.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a Brittany bringing home the bass.
Hey Alan, I love Brittanys...beautiful creatures that remind me of a beautiful woman. Hooks are not our friends when they are buried in our skin. I hope everyone knows how to get the out without undue damage.
